Default is this worth it?

Have a dealer near me with a 1999 with 18 K on it. I went to look and the bike is super clean. 1 owner with service records.

1999 Honda CBR600F4 Star City Powersports ROANOKE, VA (540) 366-8500

I talked them down to in the ballpark area of $3700 + fees most likely.

My question is that although the bike is in amazing shape the KBB and NADA put a 1999 CBR at 2500-2700 Excellent condition is it worth it?

I am going back tomorrow but wanted some opinions on the value.

Thanks!

First off, welcome to CBRF! :-)

That bike is indeed a nice looking example. However, the asking price is just too high IMO. KBB lists at just under $2,100. While availability (or lack thereof) & location have an effect on that pricing, the price they are asking is far beyond that premium. While I'll personally pay a slight premium for a well taken care of vehicle/motorcycle, there is a point where reasonable vs unreasonable becomes a choice. Ultimately, its your choice what you want to pay given knowing the book value & factors mentioned.

I was thinking that they were asking a little high ... it seems that most of the 99 CBR 600s are going for 3200 ishhh on cycle trader and ebay. It seems that most of these CBR are going for more than the KBB. I guess I should rephrase my question on how reliable is the KBB?

KBB & NADA are tools in helping you determine what the book value is. They serve as a guide to a base value. The price they list is based on an excellent condition example. Pristine condition (better than excellent) adds value, lower than avg mileage adds value, upgrades (such as the Yoshi pipe it has) adds value, other additional equip adds value, & of course - a complete service history counts for something. As I said above, its where you draw the line at what's reasonably added to that book value to what you'll comfortably pay.

As I mentioned ealier, your location & availability of certain models (or lack thereof) in certain areas will also affect pricing (it doesn't affect value but does affect prices). If you broaden your search, you'll see a wider range of pricing.

Where you decide to draw the line at what pricing you'll pay is up to you...but at least you'll know your values.

My 99 was a 1 owner with 4k miles and I got it for 3,700$ in PA. Seems high. But again it was a private sale. Not a dealer.

Sorry forgot kbb says a average bike gets 4k put on it a year. So that means that bike is super low mileage compared to what kbb says. So it's worth more then kbb says. Kbb won't let you enter mileage. They have a graph to te right saying how many miles it thinks it should have on it.

I agree with the majority, Seems a little high. I typicaaly see f4's being in the 2k range unless showroom new lol. I got mine for a steal, but see them in the $2200-$2700, but im in South Caroina and things are cheaper.

If you feel comfortable with the price or ever want to cash him out at $3500 at least you know you will have a great reliable bike

From everyone's input, I wouldn't give over 3500 after tax and all.
Dealers always spike the price so you can haggle with them.
The final decision is up to you, but I would definitely try to get it cheaper because you
can find it cheaper. They know you want it so they'll get what they can out of you.
Yes, it has low miles but, miles on a bike don't really mean a thing. They'll last you
a lifetime if you take care of them. Shoot, even if you don't take care of em
you can bring em back to life rather easily.
The dealer will play hard ball, so don't go easy on them. Make sure they feel like
you don't need the bike, and you have open options to other sales.
Make them sale it to you.
My girls dad actually walked out from signing the papers in the office because they
wouldn't fill up the gas tank on his new car. LMAO that was back when gas was $1/gal. or cheaper. You gotta stand your ground. They're making money either way.

Well if it helps mine was a private sale with 18k on the clock and every single service record, including the invoice for when they bout it, I got it for 2.5k and it had rust and corrosion on it but mechanically it was solid. And that was in southern California.

I paid 3 thousand for mine back in october from a private sale it had 9K on the odo. Bike was clean and well maintained. That was considered "High" considering KBB on it. F4i around here sell for around 4thousand in similar condition.

IMO the price seems to be a bit high but you are getting it from a dealer. If that is the lowest they will go I would keep looking. I would hate to see what they where asking for before you talked them down to 3700....

but availability and time of the year can affect pricing.
