Thanks for all of your input guys. The only problem was that the battery died and i gave up on it before the fuel filled the float bowls. This time i manually filled up the fuel line with gas and then attached it with the carburettors. After few cranks, it finally fired up, then i spent the rest of the afternoon replacing the chain.

Can't wait to take for first ride of this season

Hey guys,

Little late to this post it seems, but figured I would chime in as I had this exact same problem. I got a hair up my but to remove and clean the carbs on my 2000 F4. Removed, cleaned, and re-installed them last year and because I intended to get the tank painted I didn't hook it back up. Winter came, I shut the fuel off, and didn't get the chance to paint the tank. Long story short, decided to hook everything back up today and the bike wouldn't start. Scared to death I didn't re-install the carbs correctly I jumped on here for some answers. After reading through these posts this is what I did that resulted in success:

1. Ensure the fuel was turned on (lever on the petcock valve pointed down)
2. Connected a car battery to the bike battery via jumper cables
3. With the kill switch disengaged turned the key from the off position to the on position about ten times (heard the bike priming)
4. Hit the ignition button and the bike fired up slowly and warmed right up.

NOTE: Not sure if having the choke on or off had an affect, but mine was on.

Hope this helps someone else down the road. Thanks for all the help guys!

Would opening a float bowl help the flow of fuel to the carbs?

ok, problem fixed, thank you guys for posting your issues and step by step solutions, again this an old but VERY helpful thread. the bike cranked but it wouldnt start, what was even more frustrating was that I had a spark. I used my carto jump start it increasing battery power (i guess) and boom, started right up. she is running stronger than ever.....

In case it helps someone... I had this on my 89 Cane.. i removed carbs and during cleaning i adjusted the floats to make it a little leaner as last time it leaked into the cylinder and hydrolocked the motor... I made them WAY to lean and the bowls hardly had anything in them, even with the fuel pump going at full pelt.. before u install the carbs.. hold them level as they would be on the bike and blow real hard into the fuel intake pipe. if you cannot blow then fuel wont get through either.
