Default whistling noise from my F4

Hi all,

I will try to explain what I hear, and would like to ask if this is normal.

At low speed 40-50 km/h I hear some whistling noise coming from the front of my cbr. Almost as a jet engine turbine noise? When I am speeding up the noise stays there, but it comes at a higher pitch, with the higher speed. (same as jet engine.) I believe it comes somewhere from my Air in-take system, but not sure exactly where?

I had last week, the 24000km inspection, and now the sound is even louder.

Is this something specific with the model?? Or should I go back to the garage and ask them to check this out again?

First off, welcome to the forum.

Have you opened your gas tank lately? Sometimes, it will hiss w/ pressure. But, like a jet engine???...humm.

thanks for the welcoming.

I will make now a double check but -

I heard this noise before - not that strong
Now after a 24k inspection in a service shop it is even louder.
Currently I just took out the whole front, to install mini blinkers, and put it back together. Today I am mounting the cleaned K&N filter and going out for a test(if it does not rain - Love Germany ( )

I don't think it is a broken hose, because then it will be more like vibrating sound. For me it sounds like a fan is rotating very fast (resemblance to jet turbine)??? For a hose off - i just took it from the repair shop - still I will check all connections again.

Update to follow tomorrow

Maybe cam chain noise? Does it have the stock cct or a manual cct?

Ok I guess I found the problem. It should be coming from the cam chain.

I tried it staying still, or moving in gear or at idle speed, and the noise is very distinctive at 3-5k RPM. At lower RPM I cannot hear it, at higher the motor is already to loud to distinguish, and I guess it is dying out.

So I have a new question - is this normal or I should take some measurements?

I would like to apologize for the stupid questions, but I am still getting used to my cbr, since I got it a few months ago.

Manual cct's are adjustable. So adjusting it will change the sound of the cam chain. It’s a fine line, to tight and it will whine, to loose and it will rattle. I’m Not saying yours is to tight, but you said it got worse after a service and this is one thing they would adjust during a service, I wouldn't worry too much unless the noise is extreme, but check to see if it has an ape cct on it.

thanks a lot for the answers. Now I will sleep better knowing my cbr is safe.

Next weeks I will get some more info on the cct, and locate it on my motorcycle. Any advices, (or articles in internet) what to check and where, will be highly appreciated, as it is the first time I hear about this

I also went today to the service shop, as I had a burned safety pin of my cooling fan. They did not put correct the rubber thing behind my radiator so it obstructed the fan from working. They also told me this whining noise is normal. (Though I still image it is more like whistling.)
