A while back I took my f4i on a ride and at the end of the ride it developed a weird very bad metal on metal sounding scratching/grinding noise at only 6-7k rpms, Dosnt make the sound in any other rpm, and will do it while accelerating and deaccelerating when it goes through 6-7k rpms. Just replaced the cct with a new oem Honda one and it is still making the noise. I’m beyond confused and it sounds horrible while riding. Please help

 

Where does the sound seem to be emanating from? Try riding without the lower fairings on. That can sometimes mask or echo where the sound is coming from.

 

ok I’ll try that tomorrow. Sounds like it’s coming from underneath the gas tank/ top of the engine. Very loud scratching I can hear it over the engine.

 

Does it make that sound by just revving up the engine to that RPM range? Does it need to be in gear for it to make that sound? Metal on metal is not a good sound, so don't do it too much.

 

dosnt make it while revving up to those rpms just when it gets to those rpms. it does it in neutral but there will be an odd time where it dosnt do it in neutral. and it seems to mostly be while in gear.

 

What kind of maintenance has been done on it in the last 6 months or so?

 

just changed the oil with the good stuff for the motorcycles with wet clutches, and just installed a new oem CCT. other then that nothing to my knowledge I only have put around 2k miles on the bike since I got it a couple months back. Has 35k on it currently.
