Default Varnish in cylinders

Hi guys,

Today I have pulled out the carbies cuz the bike was not idling good ( I think problem is clogged jets).

When I took them a part I have found a kind of caramel varnish on cylinder heads - where booties attach- and also I have seen it on the "butterflies" - the ones you tune when you sync carbs-.

I have seen through plugs that bike is running rich, so now Im going to tune air-fuel mixture. 2,5 turns would be ok?

Do you think this varnish is just because of bike running rich? or I might consider gas quality, rust in tank, or bike sitting for some time?

Help would be appreciated.

UPDATE: I have remembered that last time I have synced carbs I did it with a home made device, that I built with hoses and oil inside. Some of that oil was sucked by the carbs and later burnt by exhaust.
I have realized "caramel varnish" could be oil, and I hope is just from carb sync.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

Best regards from South America,

Lisandro

Pictures, in this situation, would really help.

Hi Cornrice,

Thank you for your reply.

I have already cleaned everything. I made the mistake on not taking pictures before. I took some pics now, where with a little imagination you can figure out how was that "varnish", as there is some still left.

Regarding jets, they were quite clogged so I think would start idling ok.

By the way, don't you know a fuel stabilizer or something I can use to avoid jets being clogged due to bike not running for some days?

Cheers mate,

Lisandro

Wow, that's a lot of oil build up on those valves and ports. How's your oil consumption?

Hi,

Bike has been sitting for some time, also has been leaking some oil through a seal that you have helped me to identify on diagrams to order it

Even though, oil level looks fine.

Well, if its been sitting and you haven't been putting a lot of miles on it, you won't notice oil consumption.

Even with a small leak - oil looks like its a lot bigger volume when its on the ground than it really is.
