Default Thought it was fuel system, now thinking electrical

Hello. When I brought my 2000 F4 out this spring, it was running really rough. The power seemed to be cutting out in the mid to high end of each gear and I had trouble starting it. I also noticed that the speedometer wasn't working. I took it in for spring maintenance and they replaced the plugs and adjusted the carbs. They also told me I needed a new speed sensor for the speedo and had the part on order. Riding her home I noticed that she still seemed sluggish so I siphoned out all of the old gas left in over the winter and put in new. Still the same problem and now it seems even worse. It basically starts to die in the top end of the 3rd gear and won't give me any more power. So yesterday I riding back to the shop to complain and all of a sudden the power loss is gone and the speedometer starts working. This lasted until I shut her off and once I restarted the problem was back and no speedo. Now the loss of power reminds me of when the alternator went in my car and gave me intermittent power until it died.

Any suggestions for this? Thanks.

Does the bike completely shut down? If it does does the electrical go as well? Also does the tach ever bounce around or have you had any issues with the temp gauge... I am having a similar problem and am currently trying to figure it out....

No shut down, the bike just intermittently loses power as if there were a general on the accelerator. Neither the tach or speedo jump around. Have you gotten any good advice about this at all?

more or less that it's a short somewhere and to start poking thru the electrical system. Best of luck to you
