Default Sump plug woes

Hi, first post so be nice! CBR600fx

I have snapped A magnetic sump bolt and whilst drilling it out the magnet has come off and been pushed up into the sump pan. I’ve tried fishing but no luck. Can I just leave it in there? Surely it won’t block the pick up? Or do I need to take off the headers and get the sump off? I worried the headers won’t come off easily as they are really corroded. Help!

are you referring to a magnetic oil drain bolt? if so, I would not recommend leaving it in there to get caught up in something. the only magnetic components nearby would be your oil pump pick-up tube and your crankshaft, but neither are really something you want picking up a magnet while you are on the street. you would probably need to take the headers off, but I would rather fight with those than to leave something magnetic floating around in the bottom end waiting to cause catastrophic damage.

You could try to get a really powerful magnet and 'stroke' this magnet across the sump back toward the drain hole to see if you can pull it back and out.

Default Found it! But now have a rogue bolt left over

Found it stuck to the oil pickup. But now after having the bike in many pieces and then putting it back together pretty successfully, I have one bolt left over. Please help me with ideas as where it could be from? It looks like the only one of this type I had taken off, but where have I missed? I hope it’s not too important!!

Judging by the condition of the bolt, I would say its an exterior bolt of sorts. If I had to take a guess by the shoulder under the head of it, this holds plastics on somewhere.

Thanks for the reply, it’s definitely different to a fairing bolt though? I’ll keep hunting

Looks like something to hold fairing on. See shoulder? It fits through larger hole than bolt on fairing. Depth of shoulder matches thickness of fairing so it stops before crushing fairing.
