Another fuel pump thread
So first i'm trying to do this from 1000 miles away. My sons 99 non FI model.
Pulled carb the diaphragms were full of holes. Bought a set of used carb from flea bay. Bike fired right up after priming then died in 30 seconds. No FUEL. new pump still no fuel checked every fuse and using test probe and volt meter it appears that voltage to the pump. but pump doesn't click. Pulled fuel line anded fuel via gravity pump bike fires right up and purrs for 10-15 seconds. New fuel filter, new fuses.
What else could cause the pump not to cycle, is there a signal to the ground side! Should the voltage pulse? what else?
I'll get him to read and post here also, to make sure i've got all the facts right, but please chime in I don't know what else to do.

I am having a similar problem. I pulled my fuel pump and bench tested it and it flowed, sort of. Fits and starts. Put it on the bike and nothing comes out. Thing 1: how much should it flow since I know it doesn't take much gas pressure to keep a bike running, and Thing 2: when should the pump be pumping? I'm assuming that once you start cranking, it should start pumping. Is that the relay not doing its thing?

Does it start? Will it stay running as long as starter button held down? Do u hear fuel pump go on when u turn key on? leave key on the on position and wiggle wires on left side of headlight. If u hear fuel pump go on and headlight goes on when wiggling wire around then that Is ur problem. Make sure they are all plugged in good. Mine did what ur is doing and that was my problem. I just made sure everything was plugged n good on left side of headlight. Right between front fairing and the black air intake is a where I found problem. Two wire connectors are in there Hope this is ur problem cause if so it won’t cost u a dime to fix. Didn’t even have to remove front fairing. Wires have something to do with knock over sensor.
Was one of the two by turn signal or the bigger grey connector was loose or something. Pic is with black cover removed and that little plastic tank thing remove also.
