Default Speed and Sprockets

Hey everybody, i've been around for a while now, but just now posting great site by the way... so I know the speedometer isnt run by a cable to the front wheel. so that means it is determined somewhere in the motor, right? correct me if im wrong, but here i go. If the shaft is turning so fast and it says im going 65 mph. i've checked with a gps and im really going 55. so if i put either a larger front sprocket or a smaller rear sprocket it should increase my real speed closer to the indicated speed of the guage right? I've done something simliar to this with a ninja 250 by putting a larger front tire to correct the under speed. So what do you guys think of this? am i right or wrong? help me out here. thanks.

yes, odds are they've been changed for power so theya arent stock anyways. Stock is 16 front 45 rear. Being 10 off like you are you probably have either a 15 on the front or around a 50 on the back.

Well i've checked the rear and its 45. not sure about the front, havent checked it yet. Tell me if this sounds like stock gearing. it has a k@n filter and a 2 brothers racing pipe. it will pull the front wheel in first gear without clutch at about 10 through 13 grand. sound right? its my first 600 so im not sure what one is capable of doing. I get about 40-41 mpg being hard on the gas 1/3 of the time.

I dont pull wheelies but if yours is pulling that hard n has a 45t rear, chances are it has a 15 front. I have a -1/+2 and mine pulls hard throughout the rpm range and still does 40 - 45mpg.

+1 I bet it has a 15 on the front. It's quite common to just drop the front sprocket because often you can still use the chain and rear sprocket till there fully worn out(not advised). Stock gearing pulls pretty good, but for the front to lift like you say sounds more like a -1 front. Thats what I did to my f4 years back and it pulled great. However I will be putting it back to stock or raising the rear tooth count in the future as there is more vibration when you drop the front count.

Well, i decided to check today, while i was changing spark plugs....humm.. 14 teeth wow lol. surprised me. you guys were right. now its time to order a stock sprocket. i'll save the 14 for the drag strip lol. I havea guy at work who thinks he can spank me with a 750 gsxr. I'll get him on takeoff though. cause he cant ride.
