Side stand switch partially working.
So I've gone over everything but I can't figure out why my side stand switch partially works.
If the bikes in gear I can't start the bike with the stand down but as soon as I kick it up it starts.
Problem though is putting the stand down while in gear or putting the bike in gear with the stand down doesn't kill the engine.
The sidestand switch works, clutch switch works, I've replaced the neutral switch and checked wiring but nothing obvious is jumping out.
Any ideas on what my issue could be?

I do still think it is the sidestand switch function.
The fact that the bike won't start when in gear is normal. Only if you apply the clutch it should start. (if sidestand is up)
I had to start my bike a while ago with an half empty battery. I ran and applied the starter and released the clutch at the same time. The bike stopped the starter.
Now, the sidestand function:
In the electrical wiring diagram of my 954rr the sidestand switch is a contact between the ground and the clutch switch.
The clutchswitch is monitored by the CPU and only if the clutch switch and the sidestand switch is made, then the bike can start. This because the starter relais has the contact to ground via these switches. However these switches can be passed by the neutral switch, which does the same thing.
Therefore based on the information you provided I think the wire from the clutch switch to the sidestandswitch is grounded by a fault....
What I see in the wiring diagrams for fact is:
- The neutral switch makes contact to ground which enables the neutral lamp on the dash
- shorting the sidestandswitch and clutch switch to ground gives the starter relay also a ground. (same as neutral switch)
- The ECU has a signal wire that leads to the wire between the clutchswitch and the sidestandswitch.
- The ECU has a signal wire on the groundside of the starter relay.
I hope this might help and that you have an wiring diagram...
I know you have a different bike, but I think it is likely that that you bike will work similar.

I came across a shop manual here. It appears to be legitimate, but I'd still scan it with AV/Malware software before opening.
Shop Manual 1999-2000 F4
