Default Shifting issue, tried search function.

I tried searching, and I've scanned through about 10 pages of old posts and have only found minimal information about this.

I'm looking to buy a 2000 F4 from a friend but it jumps out of second gear back into nuetral. I've noticed a few people say they've had issuesand most of the responses say it is a common issue with F4s but nothing really says how to fix it. I don't want to buy the bike if I have to tear it apart to fix the tranny.

Is this a problem caused by a messed up shifter? Is it an internal tranmission issue?A shift fork?

The bike did this when it was in great shape. Nothing was changed on the bike and it wasn't wrecked, it just started doing it.

Thanks

Its not a common issue. Mine never drops out of gear. Its a transmission issue. If you can deal with it buy it cheap, if not dont buy it.

It's a bent fork issue. My old gixxer used to do it too. Somewhat common problem wilth older sport bikes i think.

The common problem on the F4 is that they don't always want to go into second gear at high RPM's Mines like that andI rede reviews from back in the day and the test riders were commenting about it. Now droping out of gear while your riding is not a common problem. It sounds like a bent shift fork to me or maybe even something worse. How offten does is fall out of gear?

In short the bike in question does have a trans problem. if you don't want to fix it or get it fixed then don't buy it.
