Yes the passenger hangs on to it (if they want to), I hate when my passenger is pulling or pushing on me

Grab rails are widely used in europe, they come with most bikes , every bike I owned had one including my present F4 and my wife and occasionally my mate only use the grab rail when they ride with me, there are obviously people who lack the experience of riding pillion then they tend to grab onto you. when riding pillion you have to be passive and minimise interference with the rider (driver). Also a rider must know his pillion and ride accordingly, fast or slow depending on who is behind you.

....I know if you are male and have a male passenger, it may feel gay, but road rash hurts!

lol the back of a bike is not for "male" passengers
My F4 backseat is "ladies" only
I would sooner put rails on the upper sides of my tank for them to hold on to. Keep them leaning forward and engaged in whats going on.
Its not a rickshaw..

To each there own. If you want a grab rail go for it. My wife on the other hand wants nothing to do with the bike, so a seat cover is in my future. If you are carrying a passanger and don't feel comfertable with them holding on to you, just have them put there hands on the tank to brace themseleves. If you are going to ride that hard with a passanger that they have to hold on to you, then you are asking for nothing but trouble.
