Default oil suggestions

hey guys this might be a noob kind of question but i was wondering what kind of oil i should get for my 1999 cbr 600.. And how much do I use?

I googled it and some one says to use 3.2L of 10W40

Also what size oil filter do i use?

Thanks

I use the Honda oil filter - I get mine at the honda dealership. I also run the Honda Gold oil. It's a little spendy, but I figure it's worth it in the end. The CBR has a wet clutch so it needs a special oil (I think it's with moly) that our bikes need. Somebody correct me if that's wrong. I don't have my oil bottle in front of me. And I remember it being around 3 quarts of oil. I haven't done one on my bike in 2 years cause it's been in restore mode.

There are many opinions on oil in various threads here on the forum.

In short, Honda GN4 10W40 or Shell Rotella T 15W40 are sufficient. Rotella is available at most any Walmart in quarts or 1 gal jugs.

For Reference, check the Honda factory service manual (links available here on the forum) for oil capacity, its in Section 4. Shows: 3.2qt for drain & fill only..3.5qt for drain & filter change.

Following the proper procedure for changing the oil & filter for your bike, you'll want the oil level to fall at or just below the oil fill line window.

Oil filter: Honda 15410-MFJ-D01. You can use various aftermarket filters as well, such as K&N, Purolator, et

You're welcome. Hope your oil & filter change go well.

What's the difference between 10W40 and 15W40? Also i was looking at the Rotella and it says it's for Diesel engines?

There are extensive discussions here on the forum regarding Rotella. Do a few searches & you'll find 'em.
