The key mechanism on my old original ignition lock broke. I've now got a new lock from China. The wiring is different to the old one. Does anybody know if its possible to just change the bottom part where the wiring goes in from one lock to the other ?
Are you asking if your random lock from China, which you didn't even share a link or a photo of, can be disassembled and mated with your Japanese-made CBR600F4 lock?
Honda don't make the ignition lock anymore so you are left with the aftermarket. China is the only possible source now unless you know differently. They are all over the Internet and ebay etc. They are of nearly the same quality and perfectly acceptable. The issue is that Honda made so many models each with a slight variation of the lock that it's extremely difficult to get an exact match with the wiring connections.
Are you able to help with my question ?
I think that Rockpool is suggesting that, without knowing which of the very many Chinese locks you have bought, it will be impossible to answer your question.
We can work out which Honda lock you have but could you please supply a link to the replacement.
My original lock jammed in the left hand steering lock position. Because it is a UK model it had shesr head security bolts holding the lock to the top yoke. I realised that the only way to remove the yoke would be to saw through the steering lock pin. I was then able to get remove the top yoke upwards. I could then drill the bolts out and remove the lock.
The original lock assembly was Honda Part No 35010-MBW-600 but is no longer made by Honda. I sourced a replacement Chinese Lock Set (link below).
This lock fits the bike perfectly. My issue is with the wiring. The old switch has a four way connector but only three wires as follows:-
Red (Battery +ve)
Red/Black (Ignition)
Blue/Orange (Fan supply).
This switch operated by merely connecting the Red wire to the other two together in rhe ON position.
The new lock has four wires with the same four way connector. This is wired as follows :-
Red in the old Red position.
Black in the old Red/Black position.
Black/White in the old Blue/Orange position
Gree in the old unused position.
When tested the new switch merely seems to connect the Red wire to the Black wire and nothing else. If I have to I am happy to join the Black and Black/White wires together in the ignition switch loom.
However the thought crossed my mind that it might be possible to merely transfer the bottom switch and wiring section of the lock from my old lock across to the new switch. I don't believe this is damaged in any way it is just the lock mechanism that is jammed.
This is my only question. I can sort the wiring connections out. I imagine that the new key mechanism will operate the old bottom portion of the switch regardless of how it is wired.
Has anybody swapped a bottom portion over to another switch ? Old switch showing wirng and bottom switch section. Old loom connector. Old loom connector. 4 way with only 3 positions used. New switch (not my actual one) showing 4 way wiring connector and bottom switch compartment.
Don't hack up factory harness to make incompatible ign-switch work. First map out how new switch works internally. As in which wires are connected in ON position. Then we remap switch by de-pinning connector and re-inserting into proper positions to work with your factory unmodified harness.
Here's ign-switch diagram for early CBR600RR that works with that aftermarket switch after swapping 2 terminals in connector.
Fill out this state diagram by measuring which wires are connected in ON position.
You've already figured out that red & blk connect, so draw line connecting them. Next test all other combinations of 2-wires and map how rest of switch works.
grn + red = ???
grn + blk = ???
grn + blk/wht =??
red + blk = 0 ohms
red + blk/wht = ???
blk + blk/wht = ???

If you read the link in my post the switch is the one for my bike. The model and part number match the model of bike. If you read online you will see that lots of people find hat the Chinese switches are of perfectly acceptable quality. I don't envy the Chinese in trying to cope with every Honda switching and wiring arrangement. As I said in my post the new switch in the ON position merely connects the Black wire to the Red wire that's all, nothing else. Nothing happens to the Black/White or Green wires.
Anyway my question isn't about the wiring it's whether I can transfer the original bottom wiring compartment to the new switch and thus preserve the original switching arrangement.
Can anybody answer this please ? Has anyone done it ?

I've moved the switchblock from a ebay used switch to my original switch, because the switchblock failed but the barrel was good, but I don't think anyone can tell you if your chinese lock will mate with the OEM switchblock.
The screws holding it on are tamperproof Torx ones. I have the correct tool but they won't turn without stripping the heads. I think they are Loctited. I'm gonna try drilling them out. I've nothing to lose but it may be difficult because of their small size.
My original question is has anyone done it ? Visually it looks like it will work but just asking if anyone has had success.
