My new bike: Air guide rubber causes high temperature!
Anyone else ever had this?
I went for a first spin on my bike one evening and when I got home the temp gauge was heading in the wrong direction. I looked at the fan and it just wasn't coming on. So, the next day and in good daylight I check the fan fuse and see that it's blown. Replaced the fuse and got her up to temp and saw the fan try to move, then heard the fuse pop.
So I thought to myself...the fan's trying to work but is stuck. I try to turn the fan blades and it's hard to move it very far at all. Then I see that the air guide rubber is pressed against the top of the fan. So I move it off the fan to where it should go and the fan can turn freely. Then I pinch the headlight fuse to test the fan when the bike's at temp again and "Bob's-your-uncle" the fan comes on and off, on and off and controls the coolant temperature.
So within a few minutes I've gone from deciding I can't keep this overheating bike to enormous relief and elation that I've got a good bike for the season!
I couldn't believe that this rubber thing was causing the problem! Seems like when hot this air guide rubber goes soft and ends up on top of the fan blades - not good.
Phew! Hopefully, happy days are here to stay because with the new tyres on it is definitely the best bike I've ever ridden.
