more fuel pump questions
I had my bike running today and it was doing fine untill it started loading up and died. I figured the carbs might have had dirt in them because there was gas on top of the butterflys of the carbs. I took them apart and didnt find any dirt so i put it all back togather and it ran good for a minute or so then did the same thing. To me it acts like the fuel pump is making to much pressure. I put a test light on the pump wires and it wil flash on for a second and go off when the key is turned on and once it starts will stay running all the time, is that normal? I also took the back cover off of the pump and saw the one of the contacts was broke off and had welded itself to the thing it was supposed to be bouncing off of. It looked like a set of points in a way to me. So i was wondering if this would make the pump have to much pressure and if so would a F3 pump work because thats all i can find on ebay and im sure one from a dealer would be pretty steep. THANKS

RE: more fuel pump questions
I'v never heard of a fuel pump making to much PSI-as time goes on they get weak and make less PSI. The fuel pump should be running any time the engine is running. I'm not sure if the F3 fuel pump will work on the F4? I know the F4 engine is different in some ways then the F3. Call a good dealer and ask them or run the part numbers to see if they match.

RE: more fuel pump questions
What is the correct fuel pressure that the pump should be putting out? I have a gauge laying around somewhere thatI could check orI was thinking thatI could get one of those small electric fuel pumps for a car since there alot cheaper then the correct one for my bike if i knew what pressure would work. Thanks

RE: more fuel pump questions
As the fuel pump presurizes the system, the piston in the pump pushes down on a spring. Once it hits bottom the pump shuts off. If it runs constantly it has gone bad and will over power the needles and flood over. Don't know if an F3 pump will work. A new F4 pump will run about $90.00.
