idling issues
Hey guys,
Just wanted to ask about a minor problem i'm having. I just bought a 2000 F4 over the winter and the guy i purchased from said that the only things that need to be taken care of were fuel filter and an oil change. Anyways I started it up and was riding it today and i noticed after about 15 minutes of riding the idling was really jumpy. Once i got it home it still had the jumpy idle but it went away after it sat there for about 5 minutes. I plan on doing a full tune up and replacing the fuel filter and changing oil regardless before riding season really hits, and hopefully that fixes the problem. I was just hoping you guys could give me peace of mind with my solution and that its nothing more serious than just a simple tune up. OH yeah keep in mind it isn't that warm here yet, that might have something to do with it also. about 45 degrees. |
Welcome to the forum & to the F4 section, & congrats on your new-to-you bike.
Your tune up will probably get the bike running well. A new fuel filter couldn't hurt. Be sure to replace the air filter as well. There are links to the factory service manual here on the site if you don't already have it. Follow those instructions for your tune up & you'll do fine. Another thing to check is your battery. Charge it fully & check voltage (tighten terminal connections securely). Depending on WX, I usually keep my idle rpm around 1400. Post up some pics of your bike if you haven't already. Glad you're here. |
Thanks
