Default How many MILES do you have? *PoLL*

I was just curious to see how many miles everyone has on their bikes. I was looking to buy a used 1999 F4, but it has 63,000 miles on it (but going for REALLY CHEAP). I am still undecided about buying it, so i figured i would find out who else was getting near this many miles.

Also, would anyone happen to know how many miles the engine is good for? I know Honda's are built to last, but you never know (and i don't know much about bikes)

Thanks!

My 2000 has 12k, some people that dont ride bikes think that is a lot of miles but it is not, 63k miles for a 99, now thats quite a bit of miles. Engines in bikes just depends on how the owner takes care of it, with 63k and it still running I would think he took care of the bike. Some bikes don't last 20K miles and some last well over 60k....My buddy just got rid of his gsxr with 69k on it and it still ran good.

People often look at bikes with 10,000+ miles and think "Oh, it's high mlieage." But the thinking is skewed since many bikes are CRASHED long before they reach that many miles.

My bike (a 1995) had just over 30,000 miles when we bought her 15 months ago. She's now well over 35,000 miles, and strong as an ox. Just as with anything else, if the bike's been well maintained, oil changed regularly, not allowed to overheat, etc... you can get many, many miles out of them (a friend just came through town on a cross-country journey on his Busa -- I think it's an '03, with nearly 40,000 miles on it... and his mileage is divvied up between his Busa and his TLR!)

Wow! thanks for the input guys! yeah, i guess i was making the newbie mistake and assuming that the bike had wawy too many miles on it. I was shocked to see that though, because i have found many 1992 bikes with like 7,000 on them.

...Unfortunantly(sp?) the seller decided to ask a little more than i can handle so i will probably have to let the bike go. I told him to contact me if he cannot get a buyer in time.

I have a 2000 F4. I bought it with only 1600 miles on it. Now it has 3000 and I've only had it 6 weeks or so. My bike is not even broken in yet!

I wouldn't pay very much for a bike with that many miles but as far as the early 90's bikes with under 10k miles just look at it this way they sit in a garage a whole lot more then there ever get rode.....a 92 with 7k miles might be on the street 1-2 times a year it most likely got most of its miles when it was new and now all it is doing is sitting.......I put about 200-300 miles on my bike a week just riding it to work, I bought my bike to ride, some people I think buy a bike to look at or just to say they have one because it is always in their garage.

Most bikes I see for sale with very low miles the people are getting rid of because they never ride it, bikes with high miles the seller usually will have another bike or is planing on getting another bike.

I agree with neebelung most bikes never see that many miles because they are totaled long before that many miles.

YEAH I bought my 1999 with 1600 miles on it (guy got shipped off to Korea for 3 years) never rode it
was quite a deal, looks brand new to this day bought it last year.
Now I have over 10k on it, cuz it's literally my daily driver (better on gas then my v8 guzzler) obviously

She's a great bike, NEVER BREAKS.
