Damn dude you gave me flash backs. I'm not gonna blow smoke up your ***. The last thing you should worry about is the bike right now. Lets first get one thing out. Who is at fault? If you screwed up then you can contact your insurance and get stuff started. If it was theirs then you got more options and time. Let me give you my background. Feb 22 of this year I had a lady in a mini van do a uturn right in front of me. I didn't have time to s**t myself before I hit her L/F side at the tire at about the same speed as you. I flew over her hood and into the median. She had no insurance, no license, and the vehicle was borrowed. Luckily in Texas the owner is at fault as well. Although the wrecks are similiar our injuries are different. I got my knee rebuilt and bone grafting due to my femur being crushed beyond repair. It has been almost 8 months; I still can't walk without a cane and legal crap is still between lawyers. With that said, don't worry about getting enough for another bike. Healing will take time and that should be priority. Someone said milk it for what it is worth. Really you aint milking anything so if you had gloves and they got scratched that needs to be noted. That goes for you helmet, jacket, and anything you wore. I gave the insurance company of the owner a list of all mods on the bike and what I wore. I received an offer last week but I told them to go double the ammount. The insurance company will need to replace what you had. Now if it was your fault your insurance could say deal with it. As I said take your time to heal but use that time to get your s**t straight. The insurance will want to do as little as possible so have everything ready to make them pay. As far as injuries make them take everthing into consideration. Mainly speaking about future issues. You will have future problems and personal injury claims need to compensate for that not just injury as of now. For example, my leg needed some special bone dust. Ok it wasn't that special, it was just bone pieces from a dead guy. He won't miss it. Depending on what was done or who it was diseases can transfer( but that is me and my injury). Now my right leg is about 1 inch shorter. This will cause walking problems but also joint and back pains. Everything in your body is tied together so take that into consideration when you think of future issues. Somebody said the best thing, stay in good spirits. Your patients will be thin and the idea of not riding will **** you off. Well it does me. We will drive down the road and see a biker. I'll throw out some bad words and the wife will ask "what". I'll say that SOB is riding and I aint.

Oh something else, before you leave the hospital you can ask for a disk with all xrays and a copy of all paperwork. I have had crap lost in the army and I always get copies to cover my butt.

blr3015 is exactly right. Take your time and heal. It's frustrating when you just wanna ride but you have to sit there and wait. Make sure you're physically and mentally ready to ride before you even touch a bike. Don't wanna make things worse when they don't have to be.

In terms of insurance, my buddy got in an accident last Saturday. Going through an intersection and some guy went to make a left right in front of him. It was either hit the car or hit the brakes and pray they don't lock up. Unfortunately they locked up and he flew over his bike, hit the ground and rolled multiple times. He only remembers hitting the ground cause he hit his head (he always wears full gear) and blacked out from a mild concussion. He woke right back up and starting walking around looking for his bike, for the car, and for traffic. People were surprised he got up at all. His bike was 7 cars away too.

Luckily everyone stopped and helped him and boxed in the other car cause they looked like they were about to run. An officer gave the other car a citation cause they were technically at fault and their insurance had to pay. He got 500 for his gear, 500 for pain and suffering, they paid his medical bills, and they gave him 6000 for his bike (2007 ZX6R he paid 3400) cause it had frame damage. They also paid for aftermarket levers he put on, the frame sliders, and a new front cowl he put on. He had progressive and just liability with some thing about if he laid it down in bad weather or something. The other car actually had progressive too.

Make sure you're there when they look at the bike and start adding up the total, make a list of everything you put on. I don't know about you, but I get anxious in those situations and forget to say stuff. Keep your gear too. They'll pay for it. Contact your insurance. If you want an idea of how much you're gonna get, go look up what all your stuff is selling for now. That's what they did with my buddy.

He's exactly like you. First thing he did was start looking up other bikes to buy. I let him ride my bike too cause he was itching to ride and I trust him. I obviously wouldn't have let him if I knew he wasn't ready yet. Just take your time man. Make sure you're strong and healthy and then go out and buy a new bike. There's a million bikes out there and only one you.

Good luck.

Make a list of any and all aftermarket parts and items worn. When the insurance company finally contacted me it had been a few months. They wanted to see the bike but by that time it had been sold in an auction. I did get several pictures of the broke frame, cracked motor, and other damages. They wasn't happy about not seeing it but I did luckily have numerous pictures and receipts of my parts. Like I was saying, make a list and prices. Like someone else said be there when they look at your bike. Have that sheet and point out every single piece. The personal injury claim will take longer because they need to examine the extent of damage to you and if there will be any other things to pop up. Don't get into a hurry here. Make sure everything is documented. Every company and person is different so your experience may be different. I wish I could say I wasn't speaking from experience.

You're actually lucky that she even had insurance. Glad to hear it.

BTW, cars are nice but you have to get another bike! ;-)

Hey bro, glad you are ok and healing up.

But I will say this, dont get to excited and start counting your money. DID you have full coverage on your bike ? If not then you wont get replacement money.

Do you have a lawyer ? After medical bills and giving a percentage to a lawyer how much do you think you will get ? Prob not what you think.

Hate to be debbie downer but I have seen this and experienced this before.
