Default Headlight help!

I tried a quick search but didnt find what I was looking for. I bought the bike used, and the previous owner told me before hand about the headlight being quirky. Sometimes it would cut on when the bike was started, other times you had to play with the start switch to get it to cut on. It has progressively gotten worse and now its almost impossible to get to stay on. I can wiggle the wire for a bit and eventually it will cut on, but has cut off on me several time while riding.

Its got to be a loose wire since it will come on after wiggling, but I was unable to get the switch box all the way open. I removed the 2 screws from the switch box, got the top peice off, but the bottom piece will not come off. Of course that is where the wires I need to get to are.

Anyone know how to get this piece off so I can inspect and redo the wiring?

Thanks in advance!

Default RE: Headlight help!

I may be mistaken, but these bikes have a set of points in the starter switch that cuts out the headlight when starting the bike so that all power goes to the battery. These extra contacts in this starter switch are on the weak side. If at one time or another the bike was hard to start, heat built up in this switch and distorted the switch body along with possible damaging the contacts for the light. Long story short ,I think you may need a new starter switch at the handlebars. JMHO
