Hey guys! im new here an just got a 1999 F4 last night! awesome conditiong not a scratch on it. It has 30 000kms. But... it has a K&N intake and a hindle slip on exhaust but no jet kit.. still running stocks but the thing is do i really need to through a stage one it in? if so what do you thing the average cost of getting a kit installed would be? personally ill do alot of my own maintinance on stuff but ive never cared for playing with carbs. Another thing is the bike has never had a valve check/adjustment before and it does have 30 000kms.. Do you think its time i take it down to honda? when its cold i can hear a pretty faint ticking but dont think theres any smashing going on yet. thanks alot for the help guys! :icon_bike:

The "ticking" could be the CCT. No fear though, b/c you can accumulate many K miles w/a ticking CCT.

I wouldn't worry about doing a jet kit. If the bike is running well, there's no need.

Valve checks are supposed to be done at 16k according to the manual. So, you're just over that by a couple of K mi. While it is important to check them, many have reported not needing adjustment til well after (many K) the 16K mark.

At 30,000 kilometres your bike has gone 14,000 kilometres over the service interval and I would let a Honda dealer give the bike a good check over if you are uncertain as to what has been done in the past. The ticking noise is probably clearance in the camlobes/valves if they haven't been checked/set previously. I like to keep things as they left the factory and would think the power of a standard CBR 600 is plenty for most of us, especially on the roads and motoways. Adding after market exhausts and air filters without knowing whether or not the carb jets need changing might cause problems. Have a chat with your local dealer for more advise. Welcome to the club.
