Fuel smell

Does anyone else have a fuel smell on their F4. With the bike being quite old I thought the seal on the fuel was probably due for replacement but it doesn't look in bad shape. I think the smell is from that area though.

As I have some exercise equipment in the garage with the bike the fuel smell is not ideal :)

Check the condition of all of the hoses. Look for cracked and or hardened rubber.
The lines should be soft/pliable. If they are the original OEM, it may be time to replace.
Inspect all of the connections. Missing hose-clamps and/or signs of seepage.
Double check the fuel-filter and any seals involved, therein.

If your petcock is not vacuum-operated (you'll see a hose leading to the carbs),
you will need to get in the habit of turning the valve off, for indoor storage/parking.

Another area of possible concern, the flat-bowl drains on the carbs.
Pull the drain-screws and inspect the O-rings for damage/deterioration.

Hope this helps, Ern

carbed bikes are like that, mine smells like fuel (slight hint of odor) if you put your face down near or under the tank area, also near inlet of the ram-air duct area and at the fuel tank vent hose at the bottom near the oil drain plug (one of two hoses), like a hint of fuel though, not a strong fuel smell.

if your smelling a strong raw fuel smell look into it, its an issue. plus, you will probably see a bit of fuel on the bike or on the ground below it if its a bad leak.

post back if you need anymore help

Cheers, there's no obvious sign of leaks so I guess it's just the way it is!
