Default F4 problems please help

2000 F4 the bike starts and idles perfectly. The problem is going down the road it runs good up to about 4000 to 6000 rpms then it starts to miss and will just about die. The strange thing is at the same time the speedo is not working. Then all the sudden it will clear up and run fine and the speedo will also start to work. It runs fine after that as long as it stays running but shut her down and it does it again.

Check your battery, and your battery connection..and if that is good; check the charging system by put a volt meter on the battery terminals while it is running. At idle it should be putting out about 12.8 or better volts at least and the rev it up to about 5500 rpm with the low beam on and the voltage should be around 13.5 or so..if not it is a charging system problem and it is more than likely the Regulator/Rectifier...try that.

My last duty station was in the eastern recruiting region. I was a recruiter in N. Ga. about 100 miles north of Atl. before that I was stationed at 29 Stumps.

take of the tailsection and it is located on the subframe mounted to a plate on either the left or the right ( usually the right) MAKE SURE IT IS ATTACHED TO THE PLATE since it is grounded that way, if you start it with it off it is possible to blow it!! I have seen it happen once but better safe than sorry!!
OH YEAH..it looks like a pack of cigarettes with a plug coming out..GOOD LUCK
