rectifier maybe getting hot? you can test the fuel pump theory by hot wiring as soon as its too hot to start. if the pump runs hot wired then its something else.

Voltage regulator. converts AC power from the stator into DC power and regulates it so it doesnt get past 14volts. it looks like a heat sink with wires. I believe it is mounted on the subframe behind the rear plastics but Its been awhile since I worked on my f4. I suggest you download the service manual as it will be valuable help along the way.

If it runs off jumper cables off another battery and then dies as soon as you pull them then it is the Stator or Rectifier or both. The f4 is bad about taking both out at the same time. If you havent downloaded that manual yet I suggest you do, and goto the electrical troubleshooting section. You can then test those components to find the culprit.

Bad stator and battery then most likely. If you replaced the rectifier then those are the only 2 things left in the power circuit to go wrong. Now remember on the f4 the stator doesnt start putting out proper power till 6500 rpm. If your battery is shot and you pull the jumper cables with it idling its going to die.

When you say you put on a new CDI, what did you change? There a four coils that are fed directly from the ICM? The F4 doesn't have a CDI.
