Engine noise at 3000rpm
 

This bike is pretty new to me, had it a couple weeks.
As I get to know it I've noticed that there is a definite rattle in what sounds like the top end. It's right at about 3000 or damn close to it.
It's really noticeable when the bike is cold, flick the throttle and it's sort of a rattle or tap. as the bike warms up it's not as noticeable and the only time I really notice it and on decel as the revs come down and pass the 3500-3000 zone it's there again.
The bike runs well over all and doesn't seem to display any other signs of engine problems.

The Previous owner has already replaced the ACCT with a manual one, how often to they need readjustment? On my thumpers it's a set it and forget it type deal.

I'm really hoping it's not a rod shell or something lame but you would think you would here that all over and notice other signs.

What do y'all think?

Got documentation showing when & at what mileage the CCT was supposedly changed?

No, I know the PO is worked as a engineer with me for a few years.
Got guy and takes good care of his machines, that and I pulled it and looked at it, its definatley a manual tensioner.
I'll adjust it tomorrow and see if I can quiet it up.

Just don't over tension it!

I usually set my APE manual CCT once a season. It seems to always back out over the summer.

Oddly enough, spend a few hours detailing the engine and frame today, repainted the header as it was a little rugged ( we live in a rainforest) and changed the oil.
The PO had just done an oil change before storing the bike for the year, the year went by and he didn't use it and sold it to me. So it was due for a change for sure.
New 10w40 and filter, let it warm up until the fan came on, it was WAY quieter! Checked for leaks, serviced the cooling system and this puppy is good to go until the weather gets to bad to ride. Once that weather comes I'll tear the cam cover off and check valves and timing chain as well as compression and replace (upgrade :D ) what's due.

I have the same problem I just got a new timing chain. But on do u think it just needs b tightened?

If you have an original tensioner it may have worn over time, but they are automatic and should tension themselves if they are operating correctly.
Have you replaced yours with a manual one?

I had it in local mechanic and he told me it didn't need a cam chain but its only thing could make the noise always at 3000 rpm if it idles on 3000rpm it stays rattlin

Could it possibly be something else rattling? Have a poke around all of the ancillary components to see if it something metallic that just so happens to resonate at 3k rpm.
