Crap...the F4 wont start, battery is fine

This bike has always ran great, unfortunatly sometimes things go wrong I guess.

She was sitting for a week and I tried to start it yesterday morning and the starter tried to start for about 1/2 a second to a second and then i heard a loud click/ thump noise - then nothing. Any subsequent attempts to start it give me nothing except a single click noise.

I charged that battery overnight just to double check and the identical thing happened today.

Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate it! btw there seems to be a bit of a gas smell in my garage now, I cant be sure if its from the f4 or not.

your charged it overnight but did you actually do a load test on it and make sure its holding the charge? a lot of times people bring bikes to my shop and theyve charged there battery but didnt test it

Alright...I jiggled (did not even take out) what I think is the ignition fuse under the seat and the bike started right up like she usually does. I took her for a spin around the block in 1st and everything seemed normal.

Is it possible a fuse is "on the brink" or that they will loosen themselves over time? Should I continue driving this thing or is there something else I should look at b4 I take it out and get stranded?

Maybe just replace that fuse and call it good?

was the fuse inside the fuse box or separate on the starter relay ?
(the ignition fuse is in the box)

any way the fuse is probably fine. it might be the connectors, or just plain bad luck.
if it doesn't happen again just leave it alone.

I just played with the fuses in the box under the seat...

I bought a few extras and threw them under there just in case; honestly tho, it does not make sense to me why my bike was not starting. Oh well, as of now no expensive mechanic bills to pay.

if you jiggled something and it started up, something is loose. Notice the use of the present tense "IS". Jiggling / wiggling / "getting jiggy wit" electrical wire doesn't fix anything.

I agree - but all i did was fiddle with the fuses....I did not touch the wires. Can a fuse be "on edge"? I always assumed they were either good or bad.

Short answer - Yes & yes. :icon_wink:

You wouldn't think that a fuse could "loosen" but yes, they can. I've got a vtwin in the garage that has done that. I make sure to carry a hex key to get the seat off when that happens. :icon_wink: Of course, w/ the banana seat, you don't have to worry about that.

Be sure to check battery & other wiring harness connections.
