Default Carb problems

Hey guys,

I have done a carb clean because I picked some trash from inside my tank, so I did a carb, pump & fuel lines deep clean. I removed the air mixture screws, main & low-speed jets, etc...

I put everything back together and she started with one press of the start button, after she warmed up and I revved her a couple times.. I saw blue& orange flames coming out of the exhaust pipe together with a pop .

Now what should I do?...I turned my mixture screws 2.5 turns from the bottom out..that was the settings before I cleaned the carbs, should I turn the screw back in .5?

is it because i deep cleaned the carbs that i'm getting extra fuel?

I don't have access to a carb synchroniser at the moment.

How does it run ? Have you taken it for a ride? How do the spark plugs look ? It's not going to hurt it to turn them in .5 of a turn just to see how it does.

I have not taken it out as yet.... I am waiting on a fuel filter...

question....... if i turn the fuel mixture screw inward and it bottoms out is that leaner or richer on our carbs?....because 2.5 turns outward is my setting presently and I'm getting flames & popping....does this mean i'm running too rich?

Yes, flames would indicate a too rich mixture. Do not turn it in so that it bottoms out, that would be way too lean. A quarter turn in or a half turn would be ok, but without further checking I wouldn't go any further. There is a procedure for setting the idle mixture in the manual, but you need to be able to see small changes in rpm. It seems unusual that something in your tank could have gotten past the inline fuel filter.

I changed the original honda filter and put in on of those universal glass filters...it seems more like a strainer...... but i have a genuine filter on the way....

turning the F/M screw inward is leaner?

I am still getting the pop but with way less flames....I ran the bike and she ran ok...

I order a set of used extractors & new set of exhaust seals , because the one i have on the bike have holes which are rusted and I can't get a proper tune....
