Default Airbox Seals

Air Cleaner Microfiche

Probably a stupid question, but do parts 6 and 7 (seal A and seal B for the air cleaner housing) in this microfiche even exist? The project bike I picked up recently doesn't have them, and I don't see evidence of these parts on any ebay airboxs up for sale. The large seal that goes all the way around the perimeter of the airbox is no longer available from Honda.

Interesting question, I'm sure mine had them when I put my K&N filter in a couple of years ago. I'm amazed hey don't exist or Honda don't supply. Looks like a second hand break or ebay may be your only solution. I'm 99% sure mine has this one mine.

Thanks for your reply. I'm wondering if the seal is just like a very thin layer of sticky paper of some kind of material and that's why I can't see it on the airboxs for sale eBay, or is it more like a thicker rubber gasket? Either way, I think I might just run a small bead of silicone gasket maker in the groove. It might get a little messy, but it will be effective I'm sure.

I wouldn't use anything. The airbox doesn't need to be sealed. Any air that gets in before the air filter doesn't matter. The air filter seals out the unfiltered air from getting in, and that's what counts.

Seems to me that the part of the airbox that is after the filter is also the part directly exposed to the outer perimeter of the airbox where the seal would be. Even so, I'm still not sure the seal is really needed. It seems like the plastic and the groove should seal decently well without much help.

TBH mate, I'd do what you said, run a thin strip of silicon clear sealent over it, least it stops crap getting in and is a 30 second job to peel off when needed. I'd personally do that just to be sure... although as Demon says, shouldn't need it. Mine deffo has this on from memory though.

While here, post some piccies ;-) We love some new CBR action here!

Don't put sealer on it. If a single little piece breaks off, it will end up going right into your motor.

My bikes have the grooved slot only. The lock in to each other and seal just fine.

Embarrassingly, on closer inspection while cleaning the airbox, I found that the seals are in fact present. It just didn't look like there was anything but solid plastic there until I started poking around.

Hey there. You probably need to open a new thread. This one has been dormant for a long while.
