RE: 04 F4i exhaust on 99 F4?...
I just had a thread on this... I was asking if an M4 f4 (FULL SYSTEM) would fit. The short answer was no.
I have heard before that the midpipe bend is different on an F4 and an F4i. I hadn't thought about why. The reason why the full system doesn't fit (and why you can't mix parts of an F4 and F4i system) is because the exhaust mount point (passenger footpegs) is different on the split seat F4i than on the bananna seat F4. That's why there is a different mid pipe bend - to have the exhaust meet the footpeg.
I don't know if your donor F4ibike is a bananna tail or a two seat tail - if it is a bananna seat tail then perhaps it would work... I couldn't promise you but this is the most clear explanation I can give - I'm in the same place as you... found a cheap F4i system but own an F4.
Also note that you couldn't take an F4 pipe to an F4i because there wouldn't be the O2 sensor hole.

RE: 04 F4i exhaust on 99 F4?...
I was told it would work as long as it has the matching headers from the same bike
as in... if you want an f4i can on the f4... you would also have to bring the f4i headers along with it.
so woot: that full system should of worked... i thought it was just a pipe bend difference at the mid pipe and the end of the headers.... but if the whole entire system was made for the f4i... it should completly transfer over to the f4.

Ihave an f4i engine in my f4, and i used the whole system from the headers back from the f4. So from first hand knowledge it will work, but you must use the full system. The difference is the place where the headers connect to the mid pipe. The mounting points from the header bolts to the midpipe mount and the can mount are all exactly the same. The only difference is how the two pipes join, that is why they arent intercompatable with each other, but either entire system will work.

RE: 04 F4i exhaust on 99 F4?...
I have an F4 short block, and F4i heads on my engine. That's how I know the head stud's will line up with the F4i or the F4 headers. It's also how I know that an F4i header WILL NOT fit on an F4 engine. You could force it to fit by creating some sort of new hanger system to mount everything, but the mounting point on the F4i midpipe, and the F4 midpipe (the part right after the collector) is different.
So to sum everything up:
You can put F4i heads on your F4 engine. (Thus, the mounting system for header/heads is similar, the stud pattern is different, but that's why the flanges rotate!)
You can put a FULL F4i exhaust on your F4 engine as long as you fab new hangers.
In the end, it's NOT WORTH IT to put an F4i exhaust on your F4.
The only reason I could see someone wanting to put an F4i exhaust on their F4 is because they want a highmount, and once again, you're going to need to create new hangers in order to do that.
