this is entirely possible. It may not be that honda detuned because of the f4i but more because of emissions. Look at the hyabusa, fastest one was the 99 by far, but was the same engine and bike. Auto manufactures do it all the time as well, just not advertised of course.

Well this is not true for the f4. THe bikes are exactly the same except for color of fairings.

Yes it is true.The F4's that were manafactured after the mid 99(some 00 f4's were manafactuered mid 99 but werent sold until the 00 season check frame sticker)were quicker than the late 00 f4's.I read it was mainly in the mid range.I was told it was because they were coming out with the F4I's in 01 that had a less mid range power than early f4's so they detuned the timing on late f4s to even it out.
wait did u just say they detuned the timing? wtf? do u mean they retarded the timing? the only possibility i can see is if they retarded the timing to comply with new emissions regulations.. now to call it detuning the timing? i say learn what changing the timing means. also if this is the case, lets get a 99 f4 and an 00 f4 together and advance the timing on the 00 and compair?
