Default 00 cbr600 recent purchase, new poster, tips?

hey guys,
i recently purchased a 00 cbr 600 with 7k miles on it, seems like it runs great, just a yoshi exhaust on it. No major plans with the bike for that i am more of a muscle car guy, but have always wanted a bike and this is my 3rd 1. before i had a ninja 250, and a fzr 600....so this is my first real bike!!
just wondering if there were any tips you guys can share, as for maintanance, or anything that seems to be common on these f4's.
i do here a slight ticking noise when the bike idles, it is in need of an oil change, and i was gonna have a mechanic go over it to make sure its a sound bike.
anyways just checkin in....first post

the clicking could be the CCT, do a search for it here. Mine does not have that problem, but it is a pretty easy pick if you are good with tools.

If you do not have a service manual, GET ONE! Link Here
It will answer a lot of your questions for you. It is worth every penny.

There are not a lot of performance mods that would be money well spent. Maybe a 520 conversion on your chain and also change your sprockets. Feel free to message me or email me with any specific questions.

These are good bikes and you will enjoy it.

im surprised there are not too many posters on here.

just another question:

its now basically winter or getting there in PA. I dont really have a spot to park this bike in a garage, so it is outside under a carport, with a cover on it, should i prep the bike at all for the winter? The tires are dry rotted and getting bald so im not worried about damaging them anymore, next season that will be step 1 along with a tune up and oil change, can i leave the oil change till then....is there anything i should do here??

I would drain your gas from your carbs. Thats all I can think of. And make sure no mice make a nest in the machine.

I would do an oil change and buy some fuel stabilizer, run the bike for 5-10 minutes and it should be fine. No need to drain gas from the carbs, the stabilizer will protect you.

Pull the battery and get a Battery Tender and hook it up to that about once a month to keep the battery charged.

Since it it outside, cover the ram air tubes and exhaust end with some plastic to keep crap out of there. I have heard of mice and other small critters trying to get into there to say warm. No lie.

Pretty simple stuff.

I have done that when it sits (at the end of the season, and again at the start). It might be unneccesary, but it's only a few quarts of oil. You could really put any motorcycle safe oil in there at the end of the season since you will be draining it right back out.

it is only a couple months and as long as the oil isnt 10,000 miles old I would not waste the money and change it before you store it. Just do it when you get it out in the spring. That is just my opinion. Oil never loses its ability to lubricate. Everything in the engine is coated with a thin layer of oil. Nothing inside is going to rust. Remember oil inside your engine is much CLEANER than brand new oil inside a container because the oil in the container has not been filtered yet. Oil has to be very old to lose its cleaning additives in the oil. If you have synthetic oil it will last a very long time. Save a couple bucks and some time.
