There was a guy on mautofied.com with a 95 CBR600F3 for sale or trade. About 6 weeks ago he was asking 2,500 for it, in primer & missing the front fender. My son sent him a trade offer on his S10 & he wanted us to deliver it. I was looking at trading him a 1,500 project car for the bike, since he lowered the price of the bike. He wanted me to deliver & i was hesitant about trailering my car 130 miles on a maybe. Then he tells me he is a mechanic & lost his job & would make me a real deal on the bike. 1,000 cash.
I went today to check it out with 1k in hand. It's amazing what some people think is good. It did run & drive ok but was a joke. he put new mirrors on it & used nails to hold them on & bent the nails in place. Him & his wife were sitting there telling me how much fun the bike is & how nice it is. It has a crappy paint job, runs everywhere, overspray, painted the engine & frame while it was together.etc.
I told the guy i would pass on it. he said make him an offer, so i said 500, he said 600, i said 550, he said 600, i said see ya, he said 550-SOLD
So now i am the proud owner of a POS 95 F3. The good thing is all the mechanicals seem good & my son is in tech school for paint & autobody, so i just might fix it.
Anyways, no point to the story, other than WTF was this dumba## thinking.

 

sounds like you got a HELL of a deal. Go buy some mirrors, a fairing set, and clean the overspray off the engine with some paint thinner and you have yourself a perfect F3 for under 1300 bucks! Nicely done.

Bent nails to hold the mirrors! Wow, never would have even crossed my mind, nor would I ever try!

 

The bike was riden hard & put up wet. I was thinking about parting it out, but i am gonna check everything out & see what it will take to fix it. The exhaust header is broken off underneath & the Yosimura muffler, looks like it got ran over by the bike. I have a complete exhaust from a 96 cbr900,including a 2 brothers muffler, that i am gonna see if it will work. Take off all the plastics & tank & have my son paint them at school. It needs grips, clutch lever is broken & some other stuff, but i think it might make a decent bike. If not i might use it to practise stunting.

 

Be sure to look over the engine to see if someone had their fingers in it, worn bolt heads/excessive RTV. Once the OEM seal is broke bad things normally follow
