If it wouldn't be too much trouble, do a writeup on how to make your synchro kit thing. I'm going to want to sych mine in the spring since I'm doing the valves this summer, also any tips on how to synchronize would be appreciated.

I just bit the bullet and bought a Motion Pro sync tool. But it's really not overly complicated. I can describe one design I was think of using. You'll need:
  • 3 hoses
  • 2 glass bottles
  • 2 rubber stoppers
  • a drill bit slight smaller in diameter than the hoses
  • Liquid (don't worry about the type)

You drill 2 holes in each stopper. Fill both bottles to about 1/2 with your liquid. Put the stopper in the bottles, sealing them. Take one hose and connect the two bottles together, with the ends of the hoses going all the way to the bottom of the bottles. Then put a hose into the open hole in each stopper so its just through the stopper, clear of the liquid.

The free hoses attach to the two carbs you're trying to balance. What happens is vacuum created by the engine pulls on the liquid in the bottles. The hose between the two bottles attempts to equalize the pressure, transferring the liquid between the bottles. If 1 carb is pulling harder than the other, the liquid in that bottle will rise higher. Because the two carbs are pulling against each other through the tube connecting the bottles, the liguid can't be pulled into the engine.

From there it's just adjusting the carbs till the liquid in the bottles are equal in the bottles.

Thank k, but I was planning on buying a kit anyways, I was talking about how idiodirt made it so that you don't have to take the bike half apart just to synch it.

Ahh, well there's no magic there. I went to a local auto parts store and purchased some bulk vacuum hose. I also purchased some miscellaneous vacuum hose joints. I cut the hose into 4 equal 16" lengths. You want them the same length to maintain consistancy for the sync tool when you attach to it. I put a hose joint on one end and plugged it. The other end of the hose I attach to the ports where you would normally attach the Sync tool on the intake ports. I use zip ties to make sure the hose doesn't fall off. I then route the hoses to a place thats easily accessible on the bike. You're going to have to take the bike apart to a certain extent in order to get to the carb adjustment screws anyway. But this just makes attaching the tool to the bike much easier.

ok, so it's just a hose put around each nipple of the carbs, and then you have to block each hose so it doesn't leak vacuum?

Yes, that's exactly right. Just keep them the same length. That way the hoses that come with the tool, added to the hoses you've installed will all be the same length.
