i was trying to take my carbs out this weekend following my hynes manual but i could simply not find the retaining clips to loosen so that i could finally take the carbs off... i mad it all the way there just to stop and put everything back together again...

can anybody show me a picture of the retaining clips so i know where they are and how to access them to get the carbs off?

 

There aren't any, there are band clamps that are removed by unscrewing them, they're found on the tail side of the carbs, two from one side, two from the other, by the way, get a really long #2 screwdriver.

By far the worst part of taking that bike apart. You're going to need an 18 - 24" philips screwdriver, a flashlight, and some keen eyes. If you're sitting on the seat (which you wouldn't be), two of them are facing your 8 o'clock, and the other two are at your 4. You have to get to them from both sides of the bike.
