Question What oil to use?

I know this has been talked about a million times, but I need to settle a discussion with hubby once and for all. He has a 97 Cbr 600 F3 and we need to replace the oil. He swears that his bike NEEDS Repsol and that if we don't do Repsol that it will mess up the engine. I say that any of the right weight motorcycle oil will work. Any thoughts from yall??

You are correct, IMO. The correct weight and formulation is more important than brand. It didn't come from the factory with repsol in it. Not to mention that the oil API/JASO grade that it calls for hasn't been made in over 10 years. Oil has changed a lot since that bike was made. Almost any brand of the correct oil is better than the oil that it came with.

Are you sure he didn't say Amsoil, and yes, I think it,s the best choice (Amsoil), but another brand won't "mess up" his engine...

Trust me he said Repsol. He also told me that his forum *aka you guys* all said that Repsol is the be all to end all to oil. I understand he wants to treat his bike right, but we can't afford $60-$70 an oil change.

While I commend him for wanting quality oil, it doesn't "need" Repsol oil. ;-)

The best budget, yet quality, oil is Rotella...& it can be found at any walmart.

Thats what I use. 100,000 miles between 2 bikes running it, and either never failed me with a motor issue. I use the synthetic in the blue bottle, but the regular oil in the white bottle is fine as well.

Thanks for answering that question yall! I totally understand wanting good quality, but you don't always have to pay the highest price for it.
