I just put chain & sprockets on yesterday. I am running -1 +2 on a 525 setup...My rpms are 5.5K @ an indicated 65 mph. It is a bit peppier with this settup... I was gonna run the 530 size & the parts man said I coundnt. I went with steel Sunsprockets...Stripped teeth off the Vortex aluminum rear one....

I rode my buddies F4i with a +2 on the rear and it rips. It only has 5 more HP then my F3, but it pulls a million times harder. I am going to do a -1/+2 ASAP!!

.................it also has an injected f4 engine. There's a lot more going for that bike than just the 5hp.

Parts guys are limited to the small group of wholesalers that their corporation has a partnership with, and force you to accept 6 levels of markup before it gets to you. They are a terrible resource when shopping around. I found 530 stuff just fine, but I'd have to order all the parts individually. Even Vortex will let you order a new 530 sprocket for an F3 off their site.

Man, I can't find much of anything at all out there for a 96 F3. Tons of 520 stuff, and then oddball stuff here and there. Lots of stuff form "JT". They any good? Are there other years that have identical sprockets, and they're just not being specified?

HAHA when I read that question I was like hmm not really a good question because if your asking it then you really don't know the answer which is really bad cnsidering it is 25 MPH's faster. Agreed with Bean if someone has to go down I would wish they would go down at 75 rather 100. It would only make a big difference if you were alive!

The 25 mph would shave about 1 second off your reaction time to a stationary hazard about 37' in front of you.

So it could be the difference between a swerve and a splat

See? There we go. Math has made our lives less exciting once again.

sprocketcenter.com has good sprockets for the F3. I just geared down -1 in the front, kept it at 530. It wears more on the swingarm protector but not enough to burn through and definitely get some low end pull that wasn't there before. I'd say gear her down, atleast -1 up front. I don't really notice much speedo error either, maybe 5mph? Gearing down is a great way to make the power band of an older bike like the F3 more of an "every day" feel rather then having to have it pinned at atleast 10 grand to feel like you have significant power. I'd say go for it, it was a cheap upgrade and I have noticed the most power increase from it alone verse any other mod... imagine if the back was up a couple too?
