vfr single sided swingarm swap
i want to do a vfr single sided swingarm swap on my 95 f3, anybody know how hard this is to do?? id like to know what modifications are involved. Ive been searching and searching but i cant find a write up on one. I have found some info on a vfr sss on a 900rr swap, would it be the same process on my 600f3?? thanks.

RE: vfr single sided swingarm swap
It would probably be similar, given that both the 900 and the F3's are similar as far as swingarms go.
You're just gonna have to get a swingarm, take yours off and have a look-see. Honestly though, do you like the way your bike handles? Do you like the performance aspect of it?
Swapping that swingarm out is gonna change everything. Wheelbase will most assuredly be different as well as geometry. I think the VFR runs a 180 in the rear... you're just gonna waste the F3!
Personally, I wouldn't do it. The F3 is an awesome bike all by itself even if it isn't as flashy as the other bikes. BUT - if all you're doing is puttin' around town with no real inclination to push the limits... by all means, go for it!

RE: vfr single sided swingarm swap
Yea the '94-'97 swingarm bolts up fairly easily from what I've read (never done it myself though). You need to get the wheel, rear break, swingarm and I think the shock and linkage. Search around the net and you should find some good info. I think the main thing to worry about is gettin the right year swingarm.

RE: vfr single sided swingarm swap
I have a 94 VFR 750 swingarm on my F3. I had a article from the 90's that was about this swingrm change. The article was a comparison of the two swingarms and how the bike performed with the VFR swingarm and the stock swingarm. The tester found
very little differences between the two. Also the swing did mount up to the bike, spacers had to be made to center the swingarm
with in the frame, bearings had to found to accomadate the VFR swingarm bolt the ran through the F3 frame. The shock had to have
a special mount made. Besides that it was pretty easy. I have seen this mod with people just using the stock linkages.

RE: vfr single sided swingarm swap
The Hawk nt650 swing arm is better than the vfr for this mod. The shock mount is easily modified for the f2 linkage. Also, it uses the single nut wheel instead of the 4 lug. The Hawk also retains the stock wheel base. If you want a true bolt up, no fabbing neccesary, same geometry speced single sider, I can hook you up with the guys that custom made mine. You tell him what bike you have and what parts (hub, wheel, brakes, spindle) you want to use and he makes it to order. I would advise going with ducati parts. They are easy to find used and there is also alot more aftermarket wheels available. Here's a couple of pics of mine.
