Default title prob

Over the summer i purchasedan f3 that was crashed real cheap. I put it all back together total cost about $2000. When i recieved the copy of the title it still had a lien on it. So i called the bank the lien has been satisfied. That is good but will not send me a copy of lien release or new title only to previous owner. Who has since moved and i can not track down. I there any way i can get around this.

Not to be mean or anything but you fell short on your research when buying this thing. This should be a lesson to all reading this thread to cover your *** when buying a bike.

Oh boy. Without a bill of sale you have a long road ahead of you. If you have the bill of sale it's a matter that can be taken care of most likely through your local court with about 20 minutes of paperwork. If not (yikes) you most likely will need to contact a lawyer to start the process of having a "new" title issued in your name. This may include having the lawyer contact the last owner (who can be tracked at your local DMV.) DMV's are infamous for not realeasing previous vehicle information to private parties without court documentation.

I would ask the lein holder (bank) if you can send them a letter to forward to the previous owner. They may not give you his current address but may be willing to pass the letter on.

Good luck friend.

I've never had a problem getting titles. Most of the vehicles I buy come without titles.
