For those who have gone down a tooth on the front sprocket

I was wondering how much of a change in RPMs you might have experienced. I recently switched to a 520 chain and sprocket set. I went to a 14 tooth front sprocket.

I was well aware of there being a shift into higher RPMs with this change. I kept getting told about 500 RPMs more. After doing a bit of riding, I have noticed my RPMs tend to hover around 4-5k.

For example: traveling about 30 MPH in 3rd gear doing 5K RPM....if I shift into 4th, I will only drop a few hundred RPMs, but well about 4k.

I was just wondering if this is normal.

its normal

i have wicked aggressive gearing on mine and it sounds similar to mine.

It just seemed a little high to me compared to what other people told me it was going to be. I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Thanks for the responses.

Normal. You're basically lowering the gear ratio on your bike, effectively shortnening the gears.

im switching to a 520 in about a week and its actually going to be less aggressive than what i have now. Previous owner of my bike did stunting and its rediculous... i can barely ride in the city it feels like... i top out at 80

Im running something like -3 on the front and +3 on the rear and its fine for around town just at first i had to remember to be lil less agressive on the throttle when getting into the national speedo zones otherwise id end up lifting the front off throttle in 3rd if i hit the tinyest bump lol its the motorway rideing that i dont like with the gearing, i still do it and can still be up front but its just annoying with the highrevs it just incourages me to wind the throttle open more to atleast change the note a bit lol
