Default Syncro?

So I cant get into 2nd gear past i dont know 7 grand, my friend is a VERY motor savy... when it comes to cars. And he says if it was a car he would say my syncro is toast. SO anyone had this problem? Is it best to give it to a shop and let them take the tranny apart or try to find a new tranny? ANY thought VERY appreciated!

it could be carburator issues. Not enough gas, not enough air. Check your air filter. Does it only do it in second gear??

If i remember correctly, these transmissions dont use synchros like a automobile tranny. I believe they call ours a constant mesh, as opposed to a car's synchro mesh

Yeah it only happens when I am trying to get into second gear once it starts to get up around 7g... the guy I bought it from said the carb needed to be cleaned and I havent done it yet but would that really prevent me from shifting from 1st to second?

According to the manual check these things.

1 - Ignition timing and valve clearance.
2 - check the fuel line for clog
3 - Check for clogged jets
4 - check valve timing
5 - Check vavle spring
6 - Buy a new motor (j/k)

Keep us posted.

I dont really see how checking the carbs and valves has anything to do with shifting gears.

When you say you cant get into second, does it leave first and get stuck in neutral?

oil change? The engine oil also lubes the gearbox - might be worth a try.

Just checking... you're revving it past 7k in first, then trying to change up? Do you go everywhere on the rear wheel?

I think we need more detail - specifically about what doesn't work.
The way I read this, is that engine runs and revs fine - you have no problem accelerating up to and well past 7,000 in first gear - but if you try to shift into second when you're over 7grand, you can't.

I presume you're not only riding around in first gear, and that you have shifted successfully into second gear at lower RPM. Does the problem occur when you go over 7 grand in 2nd, then shift to 3rd (or any other gears for that matter)? Does it work, but it's rough?

What actually happens when it won't shift? Is it just a failed shift that ends up with you in neutral?
