Speedo, and oil filter!!!
Ok speedo and oil filter are not related but they are both topics of my post. First, I posted a while back about a 97 speedo that read half of actual speed but odometer read correct. Guage pack was suggested bya few andit was the guage pack. Got a used one of ebay and kaazaam it works. Thank you all for the advice.I did just put new chain and sprockets on and they threw it off a bit. 14/42, so a speedohealer may be in my future. Its my wifes bike so it should read actual, or she may blame me for the tickets.
Now for the oil filter. Ive reads posts about removeing the side panel and how hard it is to get the filter off with out a special tool. Now obviously mine had been put on by a pro because it was probably installed hand tight. If installed properly hand tight you will still need more than a hand to remove. But not much more.
I used a small strap wrench($12.99) through the side vent to loosen, then removed by hand, and carefully pulled filter through the side vent. Just push rear of vent inslightly and filter will squeeze through. Reversed the procedure except for the strap wrench and "BOOM" oil change in less than 15 mins! Now if your panels are 100% perfect be very carefull, but you should be able to do it if filter was not gorilla installed.
Hope this helps, by the way Im not a cycle tech but I am a ATV/sled tech so I have some experience. But from what I see all panels that match the 97 should be able to do this.
