Default Someone at Honda should be shot!

They made an amazing motorcycle. Truly a design marvel... Then some bean counter used the cheapest screws possible to put it together!

Taking the carbs apart for an attempt at ultrasonic cleaning them. And having to use vise grips to get the screws on the throttle position sensor to turn. Or trust me, you'll strip the shyte out of them with a screwdriver (learned the hard way last year with the float bowl screws)

Just venting a bit while I wait on the pizza to get here

Just a note:
The cleaner seems to be working. But the 2.5l isn't big enough unless you split the carbs completely apart. I'm cheating a bit, splitting 1 & 2 from 3 & 4. I do have a test part tho.

One of the jets was completely blocked. I'm going to do the jets and needles in the float bowl covers (so I don't get them mixed up). Will be able to tell from that clogged jet

And the living room smells of pizza and Simple Green

P.S.
Cleaning definitely did something after several cycles. When I dumped out the solution I used, there was a ton of crud at the bottom. And gunk was suspended in the solution itself. When I blew thru the jet that was clogged, I could see though it again.

Took lots of pics so I might do a How To tomorrow

Its not just Honda, all Japanese bolts & screws are notorious for being like that. Italian nuts & bolts are not that far behind either. Where the Jap ones round out or strip, the Italians just snap.

We are keeping in mind that these bikes are 12 years old and that yours wasn't exactly "loved and cared for" before she met you, right??

Hey Kuroshio, the phillips head screws on a lot of Japanese bikes are made to a different standard (JIS) than they are in the US and off the shelf screwdrivers don't fit right. I don't have a Japanese Phillips screwdriver set myself, but I sure want to get one. An electric hammer drill with a new Phillips head attachment is one of the best way to get out these screws without rounding them, but otherwise it takes a lot of pressure and patience. I still inevitably round them anyways.
