Snapped Throttle Cable.
No Dave you don't, it's fiddly, but it can be done. Take of the tank & left fairing. make a note of how the cables are routed before you take em out. to much detail for it all though, do you have a manual?? maybe this will help

Had a quick look today and it's the cable that pushes that broke. the
only way that I can see of getting the barrel of the cable in the hole
on the carburetor is to remove the left engine mounting plate, this then
will hopefully allow me to get my hand in.
In the Haynes manual they say that you can loosen the clamps on the carburetors
and then move the carbs to gain more room but how the hell you are supposed to reach
the screws on the clamps is another story.

just take the tank off.....if you have small hands its easy to do
just gotta fiddle with it and get it just right to get it off...gettin it back on is fun too
i got a set of cables too if you need them

just use a really long screwdriver to loosen the boots, this will allow more but not alot of freeplay in the carbs, on the other hand you dont really need to do this to change the throttle cables, make sure you check and probably replace the pull cable as well. wouldnt want another snapped cable on a ride.
