Default new to me f3 problem

Hi guys,

I have a new to me f3 witha problem,
My bike has started running terrible, please excuse my descriptions im unsure how to describe it to be honest.
Ill start from the beginning, the battery was crap, so I changed that out, it blew a fuse straight away, changed that and it was ok. I noticed that the rear indicator wiring was shocking, so i put new indicators on and sorted the cabling out for that and tidied it all up.
And now, I dont know if its related at all, but the engine is running horrible. Idle is not brilliant as it was, but when you ride it makes an awful noise, like a banging type sound. it seems to be coming from the right hand side of the engine. I think its only running on 3 cyclinders?

How do i check this? is this a common problem? easily fixed?
etc etc

Cheers in advance!

ok, Ive changed the CTCT for a manual one, and now its even worse... i can not get the rattle to go away by tightening the manual.
Too loose it rattles its head off. Too tight and it just dies after a while.....
The Rattle ( thats the best way to describe the noise) is defiantly coming from this area of the engine......

help?

I would start with trying to pin point from where the noise is coming from using a large screwdriver as a kind of stephiscope.
Check the carb boots screws are tight and float bowl screws
Maybe a jet has worked loose in their?
Then check valve cover bolts and spark plugs
Still no luck then take valve cover off and check cam shaft retainer screws/ cam chain guide and small bolts x 4 for the cam gears
Maybe do a valve clearance check whilst your there, visually check all seems correct when you free spin the engine using the rotor checking timing chain isn't bouncing up and down when turning it over by hand
That's my 2 cents worth bud
Good luck
Ant.

Three of the four bolts that hold that alternator on had come out and destroyed.
The threads where they screw to the alternator cover are all knackered :/
So, what do i need to replace?

I think some kind of gasket sealant for around the grommet and locktight!!
I haven't seen anything like that but I'm very sure there will mechanics on here who have!!
I can't see any sign of loctight or similar on those threads,
I'm hoping for your sake that's all the problem was.
Good luck
Ant

my only guess would be that those bolts werent torqued to spec and worked their way loose.
not sure what all you'll need, but definitely change oil and get a magnetic drain plug in case any shavings worked their way to other parts of the engine.
for your sake i hope nothing else was damaged and good luck getting her going again!
