Default reinstalled the tank and bike wont start. Please Help!

Today I put a new air filter in, and after I reinstalled the tank I started up the bike, after about 20 secs it died and didn't come on. Im missing the plastic petcock, so i realized later that i had put it on reserve and not fuel. After that I switched it to fuel but the bike is still not starting. What do I do?

Lift the tank back up and see which hose is kinked or connection has been left unplugged. If it ran before you changed the filter, it's related to the work you did.

Just rechecked, nothing is kinked and all hoses are attached correctly. When i hit the ignition switch, it smells like gas coming out of the exhaust every time it tries to turn over, but the bike still doesn't start. Any other suggestions?

Can you hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the key on?

no I don t hear the fuel pump priming, but I've never heard it priming. I have checked the air vent tube to make sure its not clogged I also took it off entirely, as well as opening the gas cap. I added more oil in case my oil was too low. Still after each of these things, it still makes the same sound. It sounds like it wants to start but just doesn't.

i took the cover off the fuel pump and tried to start the bike. The fuel pump is clicking once every 2 seconds instead off very fast. Is this because the bike is not started or because the fuel pump is shot?

Do you have a repair manual? There's a troubleshooting guide in Section 20.

ok Guys, I fixed it. And I'm a complete dumb ****! when I took off the air-box i put paper towels in the carbs so nothing would get in them. Well as i am sure your aware now that I mentioned it. I FORGOT TO TAKE THE DARN PAPER TOWELS OUT. My carbs were clogged. Thanks for all the advice though!

Those paper towels may reduce airflow and should be removed for optimum performance.

Like I said, something you did.

Paper towels are not covered in the service manual. Bounty, the quicker plugger upper....

Glad you found it. Now go ride.
