Default Ram air scoops

Good morning to all, got a question for you. I'm looking into doing a project on the small ram air scoops that are on our bikes. What I want to do is remove the small scoops and mold out of fiberglass or plastic larger scoops or funnels in the same shape of the holes and have the ram air hoses connect to the ends. The question that I have is will covering up the entire hole and turning them into funnels have an effect on the performance?

Whats your thoughts on this? Let me know. Thanks.

the ram air is really only used on startup from what I understand. I only have one hose in use for my bike, i took the other one out. The main scoop that is located above your rad is the one that's used when your bike is in motion.. or above a certain RPM i believe.

From what I remember, the tubes that go to the air ducts get shutoff when the bike is traveling at certain speeds... perhaps I am wrong.

nvanvlymen is correct, those tubes are only in use at low speeds. theres an air valve under the tank that cuts off those tubes when the bike gets over ~12 mph.
but theres really no need to modify them.
if you really want to you can bypass it all together and get rid of the valve.

No I believe you are correct. The holes are much larger than the scoops itself so I'm also wondering are they large for another use like maybe even cooling although I doubt it since the radiator is getting a healthy amount of air already.

Your also right, I could just bypass them, but the only reason why I wanted to modify the holes and create the funnels was to kinda clean up the look some. It's more of a personal thing but when I wash the bike and start drying her off, I always find myself looking down in to those holes. I don't know why but I do. Figured if I turned them into large scoops/funnels it would clean up the look some.

My main concern though was performance. I'm now pretty sure that it won't harm anything. Thanks for the input.

you can still go ahead and convert those spots into scoops if you wanted, but there is no performance difference. Just aesthetics. Take pics if you go ahead and do the update.
