Questions about Jets
I got this F3 from trading my boat. I was told that the carbs on the bike were rebuilt approximately 3 months before I got the bike. I have replaced the Air Filter to a K&N and it has an aftermarket exhaust (micron)on it. I took the bike over to the shop because it noses down on accereration in all of the gears except for first. I was told that I needed to have my bike rejetted because it's running rich. First, is this true and second if it is true, what jets should I purchase to put in there. Third, can I just clean and reuse the jets that are already there? Any help would be appreciated.
If its running rich you would need smaller size jets. Though adding a filter and slip-on typically results in a lean condition because it increases air flow.
This is my poor-man's test to check if its rich. Tape a piece of paper to a fence or building- back your bike up so the exhaust is pointed striaght at it. With the bike warmed up and the choke OFF-Give the throttle a few blips. If there is black or gray deposits on the paper its running rich.
You may also check your air solenoid. (use the search function to find a how-to on bypassing it)- a fault with this would cause a rich condition above 12 mph.
One thing to remember is RPM is what gauges a carburetor engine's running condition. Gears are indicative of the transmission- though speed will factor the air flow the bike is receiving. Feel for a common symptom between RPM bands in each gear.

The bike decelerates very fast. Almost as if I'm pressing the front brake. Then it will sputter very hard and will not acclerate.
