Please Help!!! Anyone know how to check or adjust timing?
Does anyone know how to check timing on a bike that is not running. I think i may have jumped time. Bike backfires, plugs are sparking and there is fuel but still wont fire up. I think its the timing because of the backfire. I know the CCT needs to be replaced so its on order but i just got the bike and had it running. Then 2 days later, no start. If my timing is off, anyone know the steps to adjust it? I have the manual but there are no steps in it for adjusting the timing? Please help.
Get a shop manual (Klymer or Haynes). If your cct is bad,and you think it has jumped time, the cams aren't where they should be.The shop manual will show you how.
According to my manual (Haynes) "There is no provision for adjusting the timing" & "No component is subjected to mechanical wear" (thats why its not in your manual). You can check the timing using a stroboscope, but the motor has to be running!. Ok, thats the bad news, but I don't think your timing is out, I think that your problem is something else, there are a few things that can cause backfiring, (In cars its usually the timing, so I can see where your coming from) but given that its not starting, it could be your regulator (common problem), plugs/leads/coils. But these are only suggestions. I have not had the CCT problem yet (but I will, thank you Mr Honda) & don't really know if it can cause the problem you have. Just go through the trouble shooting guide in your manual, good luck.
I think it jumped time because the cct. I have one ordered already but i have already checked plugs, wires and coils. Im getting sparkand the pump is working.I just dont know if its sparking at the right time. Which could be timing. I just got the bike and the cct was REALLY bad. So i figured by me starting it and driving it, itcould have jumped time. So i think im just gonna pull the valve cover and check to see the timing. I know a bad cct can let the chain loosen so much you jump time. And its only 6 bolts to get the cover off. Ill keep everyone informed. Thanks for the help so far.
