Default pc cpu fan to cool r/r

after i installed the hid kit on my f3, it started to turn off after 5k rpm.
first thing to my mind, too much voltage. tested and had 15v at idle and 18 at 5k, so started looking for a replacement rr. found a great deal on a oem regulator pulled from a 2006 cb600f hornet with 6k miles for just under 20 bucks shipped, its a perfect fit and now it stays at 14v.

Now to the point, while i was at it, i took a fan from a pc cpu and attached it to the body of rr, it will pull air trough the fins and keep it cooler, same principle in cpu heat sinks and fans.

it feels cooler at the touch so it should help it last longer

go ahead and try it, it felt cooler and thanks, just used 4 plastic anchors and a cloth hanger to make the bracket

yup it pulls, cool air comes from the sides, pass trough the fins cooling them and hot air exits the fan, just as in a pc heat sink set up, i does wonders for processors which run hotter

when i went past about 5k rpm the hid would turn off, the ballast would do that if it has too high or low voltage, i used a meter to measure voltage and it had 15 something at idle and more than 18 after 4 or 5 k rpm making the ballast protect itself and shut down

i would actually recommend turning the fan the other direction
its the friction of the air pressing against the fins that cools them more efficiently.
i used to Ln2 and peltier cool rigs as a hobby, and fans that pushed air against the heatsinks/radiators performed substantially better than pull design.
i was in the 7ghz club

although honestly the fan is so small, its not gonna put out enough cfm to really matter honestly. i think to properly cool the oems youd need 70+cfm or substantial airflow directed through the fairings. the gsxr conversion rr is a better solution because its larger and designed better

i don't know the specifications on the fan, its about 2" 3/4 by 2" 3/4 or 70mm by 70mm
you can definitively feel it blowing air, not sure on cfm

later on id like to get an r1 rr but right know this one will do, cant beat the price and it only had 6k miles when pulled off so should have some life left.

it felt cooler to the touch but id like to see if i can get an ir thermometer to see the difference and try pull and push.

it should be better than nothing, nowhere near liquid nitrogen but something

personally i would have it pushing the air on to it, but either way it should make a significant difference.
