Question New member. Blinker help

Hey

I'm a new member I just bought my first -98 600 f3

My problem is that my original turn signals don't work right.

On the left side they work and blink only if I hold the switch to the left.
On the right side they don't do anything, they are just dead.

So is the problem in the switch or the relay or what?

I'm so noob that I don't even know where the blinker relay is, so that I could check it.

I have no clue, but>>

Do you have a repair manual?
I would almost certainly get one with your newly bought F3,
it will save your butt 100 times over

http://rapiddigger.com/download/hond...l-rar-3701223/

Don't know if that link works,
BUT there are free download ones out there..
I'm positive IDoDirt has the link and will post here shortly for you.

I would recommend getting one in paperback.
They go on ebay as cheap as 8.00 shipped.

---

The manual will show you where everything is, including the wiring diagrams to find out and trace your exact problems.

I had a similar issue when I got my bike. Problem with electrical is that you cant really point a finger without doing some troubleshooting. 1st try putting your bulbs in the other side socket to verify your bulbs are ok. Then, grab a volt meter and see if you have voltage at your sockets, if not you will want to start chasing it back, checking every connection for a short. So on and so forth.

I have the manual in PDF if you wanna PM me your email address.

Could be anything from a bad ground to a loose plug to a frayed wire causing shorts.

You're going to need to get a wiring diagram and go through the blinker wiring. I would start in the tail, as there are several male to female connectors and I know on my bike I had to take some pliers to crimp down one of those connectors that has started coming loose.

The bulbs could be hooked up wrong - especially if you have 3-wire bulbs. They need to be hooked up a certain way to work right. When they are working right, the indicator on the dash will be off normally, and the bulb will be on normally, and flash when blinking.

Another potential issue could be the flasher relay, but your blinkers are blinking.

Also, based on your description, it might be worth it to take an ohm meter and test the handlebar switch for correct operation. There is a diagram in the service manual to help you there.

Thanks to everybody for the help, but the turn signals are the least of my probs now.

I stript away the blinkers and all my fairings exept the front one, to get the flasher relay out.

I got the relay out and going to replace it with a electronic one for my future led blinkers.

Know I'm really in deep s**t. The bike won't start, or the startermotor woks fine but it won't fire. I drove it in to my garage two weeks ago and done nothing to it but taken the fairings, turn signals and the flasher relay off. I can't uderstand what could have gone bad the bike just sitting in the garage.

I don't have the original sparkplug tool, so I only got one plug out and it was all wet. I'm not sure if it even gives a spark anymore because when i cleaned it out, but it in and tried again it was all wet again.

Sorry for my english, I'm from finland

Wet from oil or fuel? Cause if it hasn't turned over in two weeks, there shouldn't be much oil up on the spark plug. Perhaps a carb problem?

Hello again everybody. I sure have to thank all of you on this forum for advise on my bike. I changed the plugs really P.I.T.A to get them out with out the original tool, I also recharged the battery.

And the bike works like a charm
I also changed the flasher relay to new electric one and the turn signals do light and flash on both sides now. Only problem is that they only work if I hold the switch to either side, if I let it come back to the middle the blinkers just die out.
Does this seem like the switch has gone bad or what. I mean it's pretty hard to drive while your holding the switch to the side

No worries, I replaced the flasher relay and put some contact cleaner inside the handlebar switch and everything works great. Thanks for the help everybody.
